Itinerary
Day 1
We will start our tour in the heart of the old city watching holy domes of St.Sofia and St. Michael Golden-Domed Cathedrals. We'll see the oldest street - Andrew's descent. Then we'll drive via Vladimirskaya str. with memorials of 1000 years old Upper city and 19th century city. The next historical district on our way will be Podol - Lower city, ancient settlements of potters and tanners. After we will go to Pechersk that is the administrative center with the main governmental buildings – the Parliament, the Cabinet of Ministers, the Administration of the President, etc. We will enjoy the magnificent views of Dnipro river and the Cave Monastery (Lavra).
Let’s book transfer and visit Cave Monastery where history of old monastic life comes alive. Since the middle of 11 century Lavra has been a pilgrim center of Eastern Orthodox Christianity. During our tour we will visit state museum National Kiev-Pechersk Historic-Cultural Preserve watching unique architectural monuments (Holy Dormition Cathedral, former Refectory church, bakery, the Bell tower etc.) and some museum exhibitions (museum of micro-miniatures for instance). Resume our day walking down to the Lower Lavra that is a monastery site to visit caves.
Day 2
We will drive northern city suburb. Since winter 2014 the mysterious period of Mezhyhirya history was cut short. Hundreds of Ukrainians went to see the picturesque territory. It preserves numerous treasures of the former president (parks, lakes, buildings, zoo, kennel, golf corse etc) and reminds about 1000 years old history.
St. Sofia Cathedral was a symbol of the state power of the Kievan Rus. It preserves during 1000 years many frescos (3000 sq.m) and mosaics (260 sq.m) of ХІ century, sacred burial places and graffiti on the walls. This cathedral was a witness of princes coronation and canonization, foreign embassies arrival, peaceful agreements signing. It was a centre of cultural and political life. And it’s located in the center of the modern city in front of the hotel Hyatt.
After visiting the historical masterpiece, take a walk streets located nearby, passing local yards to meet ravens and enjoy street art: sculptures and murals. We will find interesting and unusual attractions: Karaite Kenesa and dilapidated house of Sikorsky.
Day 3
We invite you to visit open-air museum Pirogovo. There are 150 hectares on the picturesque Kiev outskirts with more than 300 wooden structures taken from all parts of Ukraine. Enter each house (hut), yard and granary ("komora"), go for a walk among mills and churches, meet the life of peasants and take part in holidays celebrated according to Ukrainian folk traditions.
Let’s get acquainted with the historical district Podil. During this tour you will listen about ancient craftsmen's settlement - the Potters and Tanners, about the first Kiev water main, solar clock, about the first tram in Russian Empire and the first car in Kiev, about the oldest chemistry and grain market, about funicular, about the most delicious and wellknown jam, about variety of fires and floodings. I will invite you to taste Ukrainian hot chocolate in Lviv chocolate workshop or visit shop with Ukrainian embroidered shirts and dresses to culminate atmosphere of local traditions.
